A Plymouth couple will take pleasure in using their conservatory in the summer. Ian and Pat live in a bungalow in Glenholt. They had an impressive conservatory built a few years ago, and they assumed the roof blinds would keep the temperature down in the summer and warmer in the winter. However, it did not turn out as they expected.
“We found increasingly that we couldn’t use the conservatory on really hot days because it was simply too uncomfortable. As well as that, we had the inconvenience of having to pull the blinds down every time we wanted to use the conservatory on sunny days. It meant that we were often only able to use the conservatory in the evenings.” said Pat.
“If we didn’t pull the blinds down we had real problems with the sun’s glare and if the blinds were in use the conservatory became unbearably hot at times.”
ADS Window Films were their solution! They could help them stay cool in summer and enjoy their conservatory at any time of the day.
“Gary Chapman from ADS came out to see us. He explained the benefits of window film, advised us of the solution, gave us a price and within a week the window film had been installed.” said Ian. “It only took a few hours to install and the difference it has made is tremendous. We can now enjoy our conservatory again.”
Very hot weather in the summer made it problematical for Ian and Pat to use their conservatory, as it was so uncomfortable. It was out of bounds during the day as the heat was too much for them to bear. ADS were able to change this, with their quality window film being installed.
“As soon as the window film was fitted we noticed the difference straight away. Now we can enjoy on conservatory at all hours of the day – even when the sun is at its strongest.” said Pat.
Gary Chapman, proprietor of ADS Window Films said “were delighted that Pat and Ian chose us to apply window film. It really does provide a practical and effective way of reflecting the sun’s heat and glare. Roof blinds can cost several thousand pounds, but still do not keep a conservatory cool. I know of many conservatories with roof blinds where expensive air conditioning has been installed to keep the temperatures down. Air conditioning does not only waste energy but it adds to bills as well. By comparison, window film is a more cost effective way of controlling solar heat gain and is an extremely powerful alternative”.
Window film applied to the inside of windows acts as a ‘solar shield’ that can reject up to 80 percent of the suns heat. Damaging UV light is also cut by up to 99 percent, which means vulnerable materials such as furniture, carpets and soft furnishings are less at risk from fading.
Solar control window films are available with a scratch resistant coating and in a variety of elegant tints like bronze and grey, and in neutral tone. They are also guaranteed for 10 years.

Net curtains can look dated, get dirty and trap bugs. However, privacy can be achieved by the application of one of our privacy window films. It’s clean, modern and requires no maintenance. With various types, shades, and grades, a one-way reflective film is a fantastic way to add privacy and control the view through glazing.
One-way reflective film enables the glass to act as a one-way mirror, however the strength of the mirror effect depends upon the surrounding lighting conditions. This means that you will clearly be able to see out of the glass, however passers-by will struggle to see through the glass seeing only a reflection of themselves. Glass itself already produces a slight one-way mirror effect as you will have probably noticed at home or work, however the application of a one-way reflective film will enhance the mirror effect desired.
How does it work?
One-way reflective films work on the basis that the side with the most light is the side that will be reflective and the other side will be clearly seen through. This means that the greater the light difference, the better the mirror effect will be. One-way reflective film will only work if the lighting conditions are in your favour. To produce a substantial mirror effect, the film will need a 1:4 ratio of visible light. One-way reflective films only provide daylight privacy as once it turns dusk/dark outside the mirror effect will be reversed to the inside of the glass. This is because the light inside the building will be greater than the light outside.
The different versions…
There are many different reflective window films available for different situations. It is known that the darker the window film the more reflective it will be and will need less lighting difference before the mirror effect becomes apparent, creating overall more privacy.
The ‘Silver’ Reflective range is a common window film used to create privacy as it only needs a 1:4 ratio of lighting conditions to achieve a mirror effect.
The ‘Duel-reflective’ range are slightly different in the fact that they are neutral on the inside and reflective on the outside. This means that the internal side of the glass will not become as reflective at dusk/night when the lighting conditions are greater on the inside. In addition to this, the mirror effect is stimulated at a lower ratio of light difference at 1:3.
If you are hoping to achieve greater privacy, a darker reflective film would be the best choice, however with the darker films you would be cutting out a high percentage of the light coming through the glass. For example, a DR 15 would stop approximately 85% of light coming through the glass but create brilliant day time privacy. For homes in particular, a lighter reflective window film would still achieve adequate day time privacy but would hardly be noticeable from inside the property allowing natural light to fill the room.
Here at ADS Window Films, we pride ourselves in our quality films and all fitting is completed by fully trained and expert installers so you can be assured of a stunning result, every time.

Reflective, tinted and opaque films that give privacy

Special purpose made films are available to enhance this effect. ADS also supply and fit frosted and opaque films to give full 24-hour privacy.
Fade reduction films that prevent damage to light sensitive materials
Crystal clear and practically invisible, fade reduction film is used to protect light sensitive materials from shop displays to carpets, curtains and even museum exhibits. It works by eliminating 99% of harmful UV rays, the biggest single cause of fading. Because it’s a permanent fixture on the glass it works all day, every day. Plus, its easily cleaned and has no maintenance requirements.
Solar Window Film transforms comfort levels
As the ideal solution for heavily glazed areas, the film rejects heat, glare and up to 99% of harmful UV rays whilst still allowing plenty of light through. Not only does this create a more favourable living or working space but it also reduces the fading of interior fabrics, furnishings and materials. Solar window film deals with unwanted heat and glare by creating a barrier that prevents excess solar energy from penetrating the glass. Up to 80% of unwanted solar heat and glare is rejected preventing overheating and leading to reduced eyestrain and vastly improved comfort.
Energy Saving Window Film going green
Energy Saving Window Film gives you the perfect balance of energy efficiency, comfort and cost savings, all year round. It is especially designed to reduce the heat escaping in winter and lessen the searing heat in summer, therefore saving on our energy bills. This means that in the winter months the heating can be turned down and in the summer the air conditioning doesn’t need to work as hard. The product still allows sunlight to enter, but substantially reduces harmful UV rays and uncomfortable heat and glare making it easier for you to watch television or work on a computer.
Super strong window film that provide safety & security
Safety Window Film is a super strong material that has become renowned for its ability to hold glass together under impact. This means that even if glass gets broken, the fragments are held securely together which prevents injury and creates a barrier to crime. Safety film has been installed in many buildings from shops to schools and hospitals to military bases. The benefits include defeated break-in attempts and the costs of vandalism are greatly reduced.
Automotive films that transform vehicle looks and comfort
Window tinting has become the essential ‘extra’ for many car owners. It keeps vehicle interiors cooler and more comfortable. It helps reduce glare and eyestrain and protects vehicle upholstery from fading. In addition to this, window tinting strengthens glass for safety and security and helps shield people and valuables from view. Plus, when expertly installed by ADS, it adds stunning looks to any vehicle.
