The dangers

Babies and children are extra sensitive to the sun and protecting their skin is paramount. Whilst in the car, your child is exposed to the harmful UVA and UVB rays, from sunlight, which can penetrate the window and cause damage to their skin.

Prolonged exposure to solar UV radiation can result in serious health issues in respect of the skin, the eyes and also the immune system. One of the most common effects of over exposure to the sun is sunburn and long-term exposure can lead to premature skin aging, other skin problems, eye inflammation and in the most serious of cases, skin cancers and cataracts.

It should be clear then, that travelling by car, particularly on long journeys, can lead to over exposure to harmful UV radiation. With the number of skin cancer cases more than doubling since the early 1980s and with over 2,000 people dieing from skin cancer, each year, in the UK alone, it would seem sensible to take preventative measures to protect your children and other car passengers. How to prevent this

Protect their skin with UVA and UVB filtering window film. Car window tinting with window film provides a stylish, more effective method than traditional alternatives such as blinds which can be easily pulled off by bored inquisitive minds! It also has the added benefit of reducing heat, glare and the fading of interior fabrics. The UV protection film is also available as a clear film, should you not want your windows tinted.

ADS Window Films are authorised installers of Solar Gard's UV filtering window film which reduces UV radiation by up to 99% and has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation to protect healthy skin. The window films we use carry a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 285, when applied to car windows, which compares extremely favourably to cream-based sun blocks and also to the car window films which are actively promoted and sold by the Cancer Council Australia (see below) whose films only carry an SPF rating of 50+.
